2010 Sun Bowl:
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Stanford Cardinal
The Sun Bowl is held every year in El Paso, Texas involving college football teams. Normally, the Sun Bowl game takes place every December. With respect to the records, the Sun Bowl is deemed as the next oldest running bowl game. The bowl games started being played in the year 1935 with a chartering in 1934.
Each year, the campus of University of Texas at El Paso hosts the event at its Sun Bowl Stadium. Although the games are said to have been continuously played to the present time, it should be noted that the Sun Bowl games were not always played in the said location. There were times when the games were held at El Paso High School Stadium, then eventually at Kidd Field.
Just like in other college football games, the Sun Bowl has a sponsor from which the full tag or name of the bowl game is derived. At present, the title of the bowl game is Brut Sun Bowl, in honor of the sponsor Brut. The adoption of a new name with the Brut prefix took place in August 8, 2006 upon revision of commitment terms between Sun Bowl Association and Helen of Troy Limited, the owner of Brut. Formerly, the Sun Bowl have had several name changes like John Hancock Sun Bowl, John Hancock Bowl, Norwest Sun Bowl, Wells Fargo Sun Bowl, and Vitalis Sun Bowl.
The Sun Bowl pits the Pac-10 Conference against several other conferences in the likes of Big 12 Conference, Big East Conference, and the University of Notre Dame.
